Fact of the Day

More Information

In 1867 the world's first miniature golf course opened in Scotland. This course was the Ladies' Putting Club of St. Andrews. At the time, society would not allow women to play real golf and was blatantly condescending towards them in instituting a course that's 10 times smaller than normal. [source]
Years later in the second decade of the 20th century, mini golf went the route of mass production. The first of these was Thistle-Du (1916) in North Carolina, USA. The 1920s saw a huge popularity increase in miniature golf. New York City hopped on the bandwagon and by the end of the 20s, 150 rooftops were golf courses. It is said that mini golf is one of the only things that flourished during the depression.
Mini golf as we know it today was reinvented in the 1970s America.
