Fact of the Day

More Information

For whatever reason, this seems to be a growing trend at diving locations in many parts of the globe. One of the mailboxes, located off the coast of Japan, lies over 30 feet under the water. It is reported to have somewhere around 200 pieces of mail inside on a good day. On one of the islands east of Australia has also added to the mix. Vanuatu boasts the world's first underwater post office. Other mailbox locations include Malaysia, the Bahamas, and the Virgin Islands [source].
The type of mail that passes through such postboxes varies. The type you can send usually consists of waterproof plastic postcards or plastic wrapping for those classic paper messages. From home, the novelty lies in the special post marks that come from each of the postal locations.
