Fact of the Day More Information In a sort of hibernation, certain types of frogs have evolved to battle the normally fatal formation of ice in their cells. They secrete proteins that act like antifreeze and keep the ice from forming and breaking apart the cells. This appears as a trance-like state. If one of these frogs is disturbed by the slightest agitation it would freeze over instantly and die.
If the cells were to break because of the ice the frog would not die until he tried to eat and metabolize the food into energy. In essence he would starve. View All Facts View Images View Maps Blog
