Fact of the Day More Information Rocks contain minerals and these minerals run into the oceans by way of rainwater and rivers. The high mineral content gives sea water its salty taste. When the salts make it to the sea they remain there. The precipitation cycles do not include anything in the water; making it almost completely pure on its way up to the clouds. It is thought that the large deposits of salt on the ocean floor are equal in amount to the salt added via run-offs. View All Facts View Images View Maps Blog
