Fact of the Day

More Information

In third-world countries, coconuts are sometimes used in emergencies as a substitute for blood plasma (the coconut IV). The juices in the coconut are almost identical to that of human blood. It is said that drinking coconuts juice is almost as beneficial as a blood transfusion. Experimentation being done in the Philippines has produced some evidence that the coconut will help in the treatment of AIDS. This juice is also chock full of electrolytes, and is recommended as a drink before energetic sports. Many soldiers during WWII were given emergency coconut IVs that saved some of their lives.
As far as nature is concerned, the coconut is a strong plant. The amazing health qualities in the juice comes from the water that is filtered through the layers of coconut to the inside. A coconut can also survive long journeys on open water in order to sprout new trees elsewhere.
