Fact of the Day More Information In an effort to make his dreams of free global communication come true, Stewart Brand worked towards and released the Whole Earth Catalog. Steve Jobs calls this publication the forefather of the search engine. Brand also added the Well to the Internet world, the precursor of MySpace and every other networking community out there. Picture the Internet as a giant Hippie commune and it is evident that the counterculture of the 60s is still around and stronger than ever. Brand is also the father of the eco-friendly movement. His publication helped bring the mother-earth-friendly hippie-utopian-commune to center stage after being picked up by magazine such as Life and Time.
Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak were the key players in the beginning of personal computing (Apple) leading up to the 1984 release of Macintosh. Wozniak is credited with the creation of the universal remote as well.
