Fact of the Day

More Information

Edison's General Electric Company brought electricity to the game but only in DC (direct current) form. George Westinghouse debuted his alternating current (AC) soon after.

To save his DC current, Edison started slinging mud in Westinghouse's direction. He wanted to make AC seem too dangerous for people despite the fact that it was more economical. Edison placed animals on a metal plate and charged it with AC and fried all of them to a crisp. The media told stories of electrocution , coining the new phrase.
Soon after, the electric chair was invented as a more humane way to kill some one as opposed to hanging and firing squad. There was one in AC and one in DC [source].
