Fact of the Day
Originally experimented with in the 60s, impaired vision in chickens made for less problems on the farm. This led to taking the issue to 21st-century technology for improvement and cost efficiency.
Intrinsically, when other chickens see a bleeding chicken they peck her to death. With blurred or filtered vision chickens don't notice the bleeding and the rate of cannibalism decreases significantly. Other results are somewhat unexplainable but consistent. For some reason these chickens also prefer to eat less and lay more eggs. Without such amazing stats, a crazy idea like chicken eye-wear would not be successful at all [source].
Some are saying that the chickens are just generally happier looking at red all day and that results in all of the good behavior.
