More Information

Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia otherwise known as sesquipedalophobia is ironically the fear of long words. Whether or not you believe this is a real condition, many are being prescribed medicine for this phobia. Some places like CTRN (Change That's Right Now) claim that they can rid you of your hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia in just 24 hours. The formula for getting people to purchase medication is to tell them that this new disease causes anxiety or loss of concentration. ChangeThatsRightNow.com states this as an explanation: "Like all fears and phobias, hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia is created by the unconscious mind as a protective mechanism. At some point in your past, there was likely an event linking long words and emotional trauma. Whilst the original catalyst may have been a real-life scare of some kind, the condition can also be triggered by myriad, benign events like movies, TV, or perhaps seeing someone else experience trauma.."
It seems like one can sell pretty much anything to Americans who probably only have a case of smart-phobia.
