Fact of the Day

More Information

The Mars Company is run by the Mars family who were inspired to create the M&M because of how their later popular slogan applied to the soldiers on the WWII battlefields. The melt in you mouth not in you hand characteristic of the candy is why soldiers carried around this originally English treat. They held up well in the sunlight and are made to melt at temperatures just below body temperature (your hand). Although this may not always be true, in the 1940s most candies would melt if not eaten on the spot.
The Milky Way was their first candy produced by the company.
The original colors of M&M's were violet, green, red, orange, yellow, and brown. The M emblazoned on each candy stands for the Mars Company.
