The cliff itself is dangerous to those simply going to admire the suicide destination or the sheer drop and lighthouse (Belle Tout) beneath it. It is described as chalky because the ground sort of dissipates away into the wind like the side of the dunes at the beach. For this reason, many unplanned deaths are added to the suicide records. At over 300 feet and jump is almost certain death.
For those who actually make it all the way to the cliff to jump may meet some other obstacles.
