Fact of the Day

More Information

Active sonar technology or mid-frequency sonar systems are said to be as loud as a "Saturn V" rocket which is a moon rocket. These intense emissions of sound have been linked to large whales beaching themselves due to internal bleeding and malfunction. Sound waves like these cause organs to flat out burst and can cause a deadly growth around the brain or permanent deterioration. Many shades of marine life utilize sound as a means of communication and the interference of other waves can separate groups of things such as whales and porpoise.
Besides killing large droves of wildlife at a time, it also can hinder the commercial fishing industry because the same sonar waves burn out depth finders and other wave emitting devices used for finding fish.
