Fact of the Day More Information In a Tennessee election campaign, Davy Crockett was made into the ultimate frontiersman in order to win over voters of the same kind. Many exaggerations were made and the every-man character created became new American legend and folklore. In 1836, when Crockett met his demise at the battle of the Alamo, it is said he was valiantly one of the last to die defeating his country. This added to the legend and help propel the name Davy Crockett into household use in the 21st century.
