Fact of the Day

More Information

The woman, Becky Nyang, was struck in the shoulder. The current from the lightning was then conducted to her mouth. She now has burns around the piercing in her tongue and lower lip. For three days after the fact Ms. Nyang could not speak; she was also temporarily blinded for an instance [source]. She said that all she saw was blue and that she thought it was certain death.

Another instance of piercing conductivity is the story of a woman who should have been killed by a lightning strike. She was hit in the stomach because of a belly button ring, which diverted the electric current away from her heart. Lightning directly to the heart is almost surely fatal. Luckily she didn't have her nipple pierced [like some people i know who read this everyday :) ].
Somewhat related, a preacher asking for a sign from God got a lightning strike to the church's steeple right down into his microphone [source]. Many beliefs were solidified that day. If you don't believe, it kind of makes you think if properly timed lightning would even convince you to in today's world.
