Fact of the Day More Information His name was Frank Epperson and he invented the treat by accident. One cold day in 1905 Frank left his juice drink outside overnight with the stirrer inside. His original name for it was Epsicle, which was a big hit among his friends [source]. Two decades later Epperson patented it, and it became the now well known popsicle. It was later sold to a company in New York.
