Fact of the Day

More Information

Since it was the beginning of food science, most people believed that what he discovered was all that humans required. Today they are called macronutrients. Simple fat, protein, and carbohydrates were apparently all that made up human sustenance. This is the foundation for the artificial food of modern supermarkets. That which is processed for us today can only be based on the information we've discovered since then (early 1800s, England). Science realized that fats, carbs, and proteins did not complete the human food pyramid; the hard way.
The best food for us humans is the natural food that's been around since long before we had any clue what was in it. Today we have six major classes of nutrients: carbohydrates, proteins, fats/oils, vitamins, minerals, and water. Man-made, processed foods can only be enriched with what we think is all that exists.
Around the world, 20% of 10-19 years old children have nutritional deficiencies. The most common include anemia (lack of iron and some B vitamins) and osteoporosis (lack of calcium and vitamin D).
The New York Times states that the best diet consists mostly of plants, includes some meat, and understands the value of fish [in reducing the chance of heart attack].
