Instead, Lyme Disease gets its name from a town in Connecticut. In the 70s there was an outbreak in Lyme, Conn. spread by Ixodes ticks. Originally called Lyme Arthritis, Lyme Disease effects include fever, headache, fatigue, long term Arthritis, and other heart and nerve disorders.
The guy that figured out what caused the disease, a Dr. Burgdorfer, comically lends his name to the scientific clasification Borrelia burgdorferi.
