Fact of the Day

More Information

Elizabeth Báthory would bathe in the blood of tortured beautiful virgin slaves. She thought that this blood would revive her skin from wrinkles. She made a sport out of torturing the victims and as royalty was virtually exempt from prosecution. Báthory was also know to bite the girls tending to the bath to add more struggle to the mixture; she loved to draw blood.
After years of practicing this art she had to move out of the market for peasant girls and move on to the nobles' daughters. This was a step in the wrong direction. Before this the nobles did nothing, even when the Countess would abduct girls under the cover of a lady-making school. Once noble girls were used, Báthory was finally turned on. Because she was royalty she could not be hanged; instead she was left to rot in a cell.
This urge that Elizabeth Báthory had for blood was used to help shape the infamous character Dracula. The original Dracula is comprised of many different aspects and people of the past.
