Fact of the Day

More Information

The track is connected to Grand Central Station. From the platform under the Waldorf-Astoria there is a freight elevator that leads to a 49th Street entrance.
Roosevelt's Pullman car was named the Ferdinand Magellan and was iron clad like an armored car. FDR did not even have to get out of his automobile which was driven right onto the train. Those who man the station believe that his train car is the abandoned one down there. The Gold Coast Railroad Museum begs to differ, being as they have the actual car in Miami ( NewYorkology).
General John J. Pershing was first to use the RR 1938. The station has seen some activity since it's beginning. By far, the coolest use of the station was Andy Warhol's 1965 underground party. (Columbia.edu)
