Fact of the Day

More Information

In the past, civilian amphibious automobiles were flawed in the aspect of nautical speed; as fast as a car on the road but as fast as a rowboat in water. The new Hydra Spyder can reach speeds upwards of 50 mph on the water.
The base MSRP of the Hydra Spyder is $155,000. Not bad for something that could pass for a pricey sports car and/or speed boat. From car form, the driver of the Hydra Spyder is only one button away from boat enthusiast. At a little over 18 1/2 feet long the car/boat is virtually unsinkable given its foam hull. On the other hand, the vessel is average, utilizing pure ethanol mix or 15-16 miles per gallon of gasoline. CNN
Using this technology has led to a new kind of city tour. Half boat / half bus, the Hydra Terra is used in cities today, namely New York City and Boston.
