Fact of the Day

More Information

New types of concrete are springing up all over. One type is Grancrete which came out of Ceramicrete experiments. A mixture of ceramic and concrete, this material can be sprayed onto almost any frame; most commonly styrofoam. The strength of the material has been tested is its first use, containing nuclear waste. Also a quick drying material, a house can be constructed and moved into in the same day (800 square feet). Two briefly trained workers can perform the construction adequately. With qualities like these, the homelessness of the world may be affordably housed sooner than imagined. Grancrete is now being tested specifically for its durability during hurricanes, earthquakes, and monsoons. Results look promising.
Another type of concrete introduced to the world was conductive concrete. Adding wire inside concrete structures such as walls an roads can have many advantages. On bridges, weight sensors can be wired into the surface itself. It can also be heated to melt ice and snow. On the same page, it can be used to heat homes, or as an electronic welcome mat. in more high tech situations, electrically charged walls may serve as interference to unwanted hackers/eavesdroppers.
