Fact of the Day More Information Nearly a 100 years ago, whalers/explorers from Norway made there way to the Antarctic coast. Eventually they brought reindeer along for many uses including warm sleeping-bag material, in the long run. On the island of South Georgia in particular, off the coasts of both South America and Antarctica, the reindeer were abandoned in this new home. Amazingly or unfortunately (depending on if you are the reindeer), they have survived. Recent accounts of the animals include details depicting a mother-nature tattered bunch of apprehensive and forgotten creatures.
