Fact of the Day

More Information

Some compare the sight of the knotted structures (khipus)to that of a mop, but time may have changed its appearance. As a tradition passed down by the upper class or ruling officials, the khipus may have been a way to communicate and pass down literature. The Spanish had burned a countless number of these since the first conquistadors made it to Peru.
The Inca built cities on the tops of mountains. The culture is shrouded in mystery and to add to that, the stone for the cities is not all from the mountains, often it is from far off (i.e. the mountain base). These are not just any mountains, these are the Andes. The famous city of Machu Picchulies 8,000 in the sky.
