Fact of the Day

More Information

The framework of the structure's legs has been coated with coral and a multitude of other life since its was built in the 70s. All of the coral spawn annually. Sperm-cells are released into the water to land and grow new colonies of coral and the life it supports. No one is sure how the coral know when to release, but I would attribute it indirectly to the earth's revolution around being as that is also an annual cycle.
The alarming part of this situation is the danger associated with oil drilling. Any major disturbance would probably wipe out the fragile coral reef. Unfortunately, the rig fuels over 100,000 American homes in Louisiana & Texas. Click Here to See Some Images
